The soul and the mental block
In his speeches to Seiwajuku participants, all of whom are the presidents of middle to small size businesses in Japan, Mr. Inamori* reiterated one theme; the ultimate objective of our lives. He mentioned this is to polish our souls, improve the quality of our souls then get prepared to our next lives. I ,at least, implied his message like this. Overcome or deal with your mental blocks which were developed in your childhoods, so that you would be able to polish your souls to complete your missions in this world. When it comes to psychological and brain scientific view points, I would like to demonstrate the similarity between the mental block theories and Mr. Inamori’s soul theories.
Q: What is Mr. Inamori’s soul theory?
A: He analyzed, according to his knowledge and experience as a Buddhism monk, the human mental structure is composed of multi-layers of a sphere. All of those layers are shared one core, which we call our soul. In the center, our soul is located. Our ultimate objective in this life is to polish our souls and convert them into better qualities. Therefore, our missions, the responsibilities as business leaders, are given to fulfill those ultimate objectives.
Q: What is your Mental Block theory?
A: Mental block is a sort of assumption or our conduct guidelines which are embedded into our subliminal level. The block has been said to be developed by around age of six in our childhood. As you know, subliminal minds have been much more influential than have conscious minds. In our mental growth path, sometimes, that mental blocks cause conflicts with others and therefore, changing the direction of those mental blocks or loosen those functions are helpful to solve daily issues.
Q: What is the similarity of those two, Mr. Inamori’s soul story and mental blocks controlled by our subliminal minds?
A: Mr. Inamori’s soul theory is a form of how mental block affects to human behavior. In his childhood, his parents reiterated him that he should do right things as human being. In that boy’s mind, this might have been embedded into as a message “You should do ethically right things, otherwise your mother would not love you…”, or “You should be the right person, otherwise you would lose your friends.” This mental block has been so strong that it could actually have driven most of Mr. Inamori’s behaviors.
Q: How this mental block has affected his life as an entrepreneur?
A: This code of conduct directly and indirectly has supported him to maintain the company’s healthy financial conditions. In other words, no corruption, no fraud, and no tax evaton. This attitude has positively affected his company management and allowed him to achieve the great success as a business leader.
Q: But your mental block theory is relating to the subliminal mind and how is that related to Mr. Inamori’s soul theory? Is his point maintaining our soul, isn’t it?
A: Soul is very important to choose our mental block. Before coming to this word, our soul has already decided which mental block to be burdened and what kind of mission we should complete in our life to improve the quality of our soul. Therefore, Mr. Inamori’s argument is what kind of approach we should take to improve the quality of our souls. This can be interpreted as what kind of mental block we should have to complete our missions in this life.
Q: So, for summing up, what is the message from Mr. Inamori in his speech?
A: In order for us to polish our souls in this life, we may have to overcome or deal with our mental blocks. Through those processes, dealing with mental blocks, our souls can be converted into better ones.
